Both my late grandmother and I were born in the year of the Wood Dog, which occurs every sixty years according to the Chinese zodiac. The dog symbolized a special bond between us, often expressed through her dog-themed gifts. The sculpture bears the carved Chinese characters “狗” (dog) and “一生平安” (a peaceful life), based on a gift from my grandmother.
